Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park!

A few weekends ago I was able to travel to the lovely town of Freeport, ME. In this town there is the famous location and headquarters of L.L. Bean as well as a number of other stores to shop at. Many visitors will flock to this shopping center to breathe the fresh Maine air and enjoy the savings. Only a fifteen minute drive outside of the center of Freeport, you will find a small peninsula that seems to be an entirely separate town. The peaceful silence surrounds you as you drive down the long winding road towards the state park's entrance, passing rustic barns at every turn. Once you enter the park, there are a number of short hiking trails that will lead you to the water and the scenery that lies beyond the tree-line of the spruces and evergreens that surround you.

The area is easily approachable for all ages, as the pathways are kept clean and have hand rails and staircases throughout when the pathway becomes more challenging to travel. My favorite part of visiting this park was the unique appearance and texture that the rocks and boulders had along the coastline. Maine is known for it's rocky coasts, and at each beach I have visited there are slight differences and unique details that identify with each location.

These jagged sides and slippery rocks can be challenging to walk along, but if you are able to I recommend you dip your toes in the water and appreciate the different textures on this beach side. Whether you are looking to have some time to yourself, or go for a day trip with friends or family, I highly recommend visiting Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park. Only a four dollar entry fee per adult, is a small fee to pay to experience the beauty that this location offers. You may even bump into a pair of friendly dogs!
